5 Easy Steps To Planning A Fun Birthday Party For Kids
Follow these five straightforward steps to coming up with a fun party for kids:
Plan with your little one
Since it's her birthday party, it's only wise to involve your child in the planning process. Ask her what she wants for a theme, perhaps her favorite cartoon character, a fairytale character (like a princess, a mermaid or a pirate), or even a favorite color. Ask her input about the entertainment, too - would she want to have just games or does she want a clown or a magician present?
Lastly, note down the key people that she wants present at her party, she'll most probably mention a best friend or two or a neighbourhood kid she always plays with.
Set the date, time and guest list
Once you have decided on a theme, planning will be easier from there. It's ideal to decide on a date and time of a party at least 6 weeks ahead, so you'll have plenty of time to plan and send out invitations.
A day of a weekend should be best for everyone (there's no school and many of the parents don't have work). As for the time, lunch time is a good time for pre-schoolers and after nap time for toddlers.
To keep things organized, create a list of all the people you plan to invite so you have a general idea of how many people you'll be preparing for.
Set a budget
One good thing to remember is that you don't need to spend too much money to host a party that kids will enjoy. As long as there's food and entertainment, kids will be happy. Set a budget and stick to it when buying decorations, shopping for food and hiring entertainment (if your child requested a clown or magician).
Prepare simple food
Kids may be picky eaters, but what they want are actually the simplest of foods - hotdogs, sandwiches, spaghetti, pizza etc. It's all in the presentation. Serve the food in creative ways like pasta in a colourful plate, a make-your-own pizza station and sandwiches cut up in cute shapes.
Don't worry too much about food at the party. Remember, you're catering to the kids, not the parents.
Keep the fun going
Aside from exciting games for entertainment, keep the kids hyped up with upbeat music throughout the party. Don't forget the cake and the goody bags filled with candy and inexpensive party favors!
